And just like that, I ignore this page for an entire week. That was easy. One thing is for certain, I’m going to ignore it ever more so next week (The reason can be seen here) At least for this entry I have some music related-ish news! After living in the greater northern va area for 29 years, I’m finally making it out to a DC101 Chilli Cook Off. DC101 normally throws together a pretty solid set list, mixing old favorites (Yay!) with new blood. A band that I was introduced to over the past year will be playing there, and I’m pretty psyched to see them perform live. They of course get bonus points for having a hot violinist (Also see Ra Ra Riot)
The Airborne Toxic Event - All I Ever Wanted off of the album, All at Once
If you know me, then you know that a majority of the time I’m laid back, mellow and relaxed, so this music really conforms to that. Most of the time (i.e. at work, in the morning when I don’t want anyone talking to me, before I go to sleep, etc.) I just need something relaxing in background. I’ve grown to love a verity of different instrumental groups, and here’s one that I picked up on more recently. Enjoy.
The Album Leaf - The Outer Banks, off of the album, In a Safe Place
Back when I believed that Rap and Hip-Hop were the same thing, I pretty much only judged this type of music by how catchy the beat was or how many times it was played at parties. My musical taste buds have since evolved, and I have a solid grip on what I loathe (Little Wayne’s whiny ass voice, Solja Boy, etc.), and what I appreciate. My Hip-Hop preferences center around artists that are more lyrically inclined. Some examples would be Eminem, J.Cole, Nas, Mos Def, and Wale. I’m also a sucker for brass and vocalists laying down a sick hook, so this one has the whole package for me.
Wale - Sabotage, off of the album, Ambition
With the weather warming up, you look for some up beat music to blast. Windows down. Shades on. Road trip engage. I found this one when a friend of mine randomly posted it online, and I’ve been hooked ever since (it’s actually my default ring tone).
The Radio Dept. - Heaven’s On Fire from the album, Clinging to a Scheme
You know what? May seems like a good month for music, so lets do that. For this whole month I’ll post at least one song a day, and perhaps this will turn into a sweet trend I keep up with. I feel that my taste in music is quite varied, so you’re bound to find something you’ll enjoy eventually. I figure if I can turn you onto one new band, I’ve done some good in this world.
This first tune comes from The Bad Veins, who just released their 2nd album about a week ago. I discovered them when I was at a Thrice concert up in Towson a couple of years ago, and they put on a damn good live show.
Bad Veins - Don’t Run from the album, The Mess We’ve Made
It has been far too long since I’ve gotten a new CD. This will do quite nicely.
If you haven’t, go check these guys out. They’re mighty sweet.
Have I found the coolest label of any porter on the market? Until I’m proven wrong, I can safely say “Yes.” I enjoyed this tasty Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout while crushing some pizza at Rustico (pizza not shown due to how quickly I inhaled it). Incredibly smooth and silky. I would recommend even to those who typically shy away from stouts, since this beer finishes clean is also equally refreshing. Cheers.
Delirium Tremens. Smooth, crisp, refreshing, and if you underestimate its prowess, you will be feeling it the following morning. Those pink elephants mean business.
